Discerning for the Mission

Serving with humility, preaching with conviction

- Saint Alphonsus

Begin in Prayer

Seek silence and openness before God. Missionary discernment starts not with plans, but with listening.

Listen to the Cry of the People

Pay attention to the abandoned, the suffering, the poor, and those longing for hope. Mission grows from compassion.

Reflect on Your Gifts and Desires

Consider the talents, passions, and convictions God has placed within you. Ask where your deepest joy meets the world’s deepest need.

Discern Through Community

Mission is rarely discerned alone. Seek wisdom through spiritual directors, mentors, companions, and faith communities.

Examine the Signs of the Spirit

Notice where you experience peace, courage, generosity, and enduring love. Authentic mission often brings both challenge and deep interior clarity.

Encounter the Margins Personally

Spend time among those who are forgotten or excluded. Missionary discernment becomes clearer through presence, not distance.

Always on the move

Always on the move

As Redemptorists, we know that changes are constant because we must adapt to our pastoral circumstances. Redemptorists are assigned by their religious superiors to serve where they are most needed — in parishes, missions, retreats, schools, or communities. Unlike many people who stay permanently in one parish or city, Redemptorists usually take a vow of obedience, so they may be reassigned regularly according to the needs of the congregation and the Church.

Cultural Openness

Cultural Openness

The Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer tends to be open to multicultural experiences because its mission is global and focused on serving people from many different backgrounds, especially those who are poor, abandoned, or marginalized. Because of this, many Redemptorists become comfortable crossing cultural boundaries and learning from different communities rather than staying tied to only one cultural setting.
